The Northampton West Indian Community Association was initially established as a
result of a general perception that there were only a few cultural and social events
availible to the West Indian community. We do not possess a base, building or
community centre that reflects the size and needs of our community and we needed to
address this situation.
Our early research revealed there was actually a surprising number of committed
groups within the town staging events, however they were failing to reach the wider
community. This meant that response to events was not reaching the full potential.
We found several groups were working in isolation, arranging events on the same day
and often competing for the same funding.
Our committee felt strongly that we needed to establish a means by which all groups
could work together, under the common cause "to support the development of our community".
We established this website as the basis of what we would like to call a virtual
community centre. Here we will share ideas, information, and provide a window for all to
review up-and-coming events in the town.
We want to bring back more "Unity in the Community" working with all groups to
maximise the benefits for all. We want to provide a legacy for our youth, our children
and future generations we can be proud of. We are a committed team and are combining
our skills and experiences to make things happen for you. We welcome your support,
contributions and participation.
